Somalia President Sharif Sheik Ahmek was the latest to criticize a United Nations Security Council report showing that almost half of food aid sent to the country was diverted to other channels, including rebel groups, the New York Times reports. The report also described the country’s security forces as “ineffective, disorganized and corrupt.”
Ahmed said majority of the report’s findings are not trustworthy and “based on people on the street, not reality.” The report, which was prepared by the council’s Monitoring Group on Somalia, has previously been criticized by several parties involved, including Somali politicians, businessmen and the U.N. World Food Program.
Meanwhile, independent experts noted that while the report has faults, its overall findings are accurate.
