Somali prime minister Ali Mohamed Gedi is asking donors for $32.6 million to finance a national reconciliation conference in Mogadishu. “Nobody can deny there are security challenges in the country, and particularly the capital city,” Gedi said. “The next two weeks will be a test for us and allow us to prove how we will organize the conference,” he added. Violence has plagued the city, with eight deaths reported on March 13. In an effort to halt the almost-daily attacks, the interim government hopes to gather clan leaders, elders and politicians in a meeting on April 16.
