Sudanese Minister of Finance and National Economy al-Zubair Ahmed Hassan called for support from international donors in resolving the country’s debt crisis. “The crisis of external debts is threatening the economic transformation in Sudan and blocking its development,” he said. Hassan urged donors to honor the commitments made after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in January 2006, which ended 21 years of civil war in Sudan. To date, donors have only delivered on 14 percent of their promised aid to support the country’s recovery program. (Source: Sudan urges donors to resolve its debts crisis/Xinhua)
