Aid localization, or giving money directly to a developing country’s government or to local nongovernmental organizations, is an irrefutable trend. In fact, a recent Global Finance Strategies report showed 74 percent of donors and 94 percent of recipients identifying it as such.
But plenty of strings come attached with the money, and donors and local implementing organizations alike often find reporting requirements unnecessarily burdensome. Nearly 100 percent of aid recipients said that meeting donor reporting and compliance requirements is a significant challenge, according to the survey.
