The Islamic Development Bank and the Organization of the Islamic Conference have asked Turkey to take a lead role in expanding the estimated $1 trillion halal food industry. OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu told Turkish officials who recently visited Saudi Arabia to invest more in producing halal-certified food products and raising awareness about consuming halal food. The secretary-general also asked Turkish food producers to comply with halal standards in their exports to Muslim states, Today’s Zaman reports.
