Uganda has received its first major aid after a group of European countries decided to freeze their support to the African nation. Benedict Kanu, a spokesman for the African Development Bank, said the agency agreed to invest $84 million in the country?s education and water and sanitation sectors. The bank, he added, tied "insignificant conditions" to the grants and did not come out with the decision in reaction to the aid cuts, which cost Uganda more than $73 million. Last year, a group of European donors Britain, Sweden, Norway and Ireland withdrew their assistance to the African state due to concerns over delays in political reforms.
