Palestinian territories should benefit from a conference that Britain and the United States will co-sponsor with the Palestinian government. According to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the Bethlehem investors meeting is expected to take place in either March or April. “2008 is a year of great opportunity – the creation of a viable state of Palestine alongside a secure state of Israel,” said Brown at a news conference. Abbas has also expressed his gratitude to the international community for pledging USD7 billion in aid during a meeting in Paris. “This is a golden opportunity and we have to exploit it to the maximum,” Abbas stated. “We don’t say these are easy problems, there are lots of complexities but it’s our duty that we have to overcome these complexities.”
