
U.N. Women is inviting governments and non-governmental organizations to apply for grants that will promote political and economic empowerment of women in Arab states.
This is the first of two grant-making cycles under the Fund for Gender Equality, which has allotted $16 million for the 2011-2012 period. The second round will cover proposals from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia.
For this cycle, the fund is devoting $4 million for the projects, with each receiving at least $200,000. It welcomes proposals from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestinian territories, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
