The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees urged donors to disburse USD90 million in support of the agency’s specialized programs in 2008. UNHCR spokesperson Ron Redmond stressed that the initiatives will target seven countries: Central African Republic, Chad, Colombia, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia and Uganda. “The protection of civilians from violence, maintaining the civilian character of IDP camp settings and combating sexual violence and child abuse will remain the overarching priorities,” said the UNHCR funding appeal.
