United Kingdom

The International HIV/AIDS Alliance expressed extreme disappointment Sept. 26 at the announcement by the British government that it will not be honoring the commitments made at the G8 in June to treble the size of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria by 2010 to meet the Millennium Development Goals. The UK was to increase funding to the Global Fund to GBP 700 million over the next three years. Instead the government will be increasing funding by just 5 percent per year over the next three years, to GBP 360 million for the period 2008- 2010. (Reuters)
