The U.S. House of Representatives will decide on whether to approve a White House request for USD1.245 billion in food aid to poor countries in 2008 and 2009. It represents an increase of USD245 million from President George W. Bush’s initial proposal to support agricultural development and disaster prevention initiatives for both fiscal years. The U.S. Agency for International Development will manage the funding, which will mainly benefit Africa.
