The U.S. will not withdraw its aid for Ethiopia in contrast to an earlier announcement by a group of donors led by the World Bank. Acting U.S. ambassador to Ethiopia Vicki Huddleston said "it would be unacceptable to even consider reducing" the country?s $600 million aid to the country, which "is highly concentrated on humanitarian activities and basic development programmes aimed at helping people come out of poverty." Last week, the donor community announced its plan to freeze $375 million in budgetary assistance to the African nation due to concerns over the country?s turbulent political situation.
