Charles North was sworn in Aug. 3 as director of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s mission in Russia. North will now oversee the agency’s portfolio in Russia worth USD50 million to USD60 million each year.
The portfolio focuses on health, civil society, rule of law, local governance, conflict mitigation, the environment, energy, business development, and media exchanges.
North most recently served as senior deputy director of USAID’s Afghanistan and Pakistan task force, and adviser to the assistant administrator for the Asia Bureau.
North joined USAID in 1987.
