After seven years of suspension, the U.S. Agency for International Development has revived its agricultural assistance under theeconomic growth program in Zimbabwe earlier this year.
In February 2010, USAID gave out seven livelihood grants amounting to $14 million and expects to award another round of grants in the future, the Zimbabwe mission told Devex. The agency also plans to issue solicitations for two agricultural programs.
If the national leadership transitions to a more stable condition, full donor engagement will resume and assistance may expand to private sector capacity building, the mission said.
USAID has halted its economic support since 2002 due to the volatile political environment in the country. Governance and health programs, however, have continued.
The fiscal 2010 budget for economic growth amounts to $20 million. The mission expects to receive the allocation between July and September this year.
