UNICEF has welcomed the appointment of Anthony Lake as its next leader. He will take over the post currently held by Ann M. Veneman May 1. Veneman has pledged to “work closely with [Lake] to ensure a smooth and successful transition.”

UNAIDS is likewise pleased with Lake’s appointment.

“I look forward to working closely with Mr Lake on our shared goals of ensuring countries reach their universal access goals for children and adolescents in HIV prevention, treatment, care and support,” said UNAIDS chief Michel Sidibe. “And a big part of this will be working together to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV.”
