Citing lack of funds, the World Food Program sees a major cutback in food rations for hungry people in Zambia. The United Nations agency said that, unless more donor cash comes in, it can only feed 500,000 instead of the estimated 1.2 million drought casualties starting July. Also, the number of orphans and vulnerable children served by the agency will go down to 61,000. According to WFP country director David Stevenson, the action "will mean an end to … daily meals of porridge and will more than likely be followed by an increase in school drop-outs."
