The World Bank will inject a total of USD215 million into a project that will help the Ethiopian government protect and encourage the delivery of basic services and curb corruption in the local government. The bank, which has already allocated a total of USD430 million the Ethiopia Protection of Basic Services (PBS) program, recognized the positive impact of the PBS on the delivery of basic services in the country. “The PBS is pushing the frontier in terms of improving service delivery on a large-scale and making it more accountable to the people,” said Kenichi Ohashi, the bank’s Country Director for Ethiopia and Sudan. “The challenges are significant but these are the building blocks for true local empowerment.” (Press Release: Ethiopia: World Bank Provides an Additional USD215 Million for Basic Services/World Bank)
