The Adam Smith Institute is a UK-based libertarian think tank. It engineers policies to increase Britain’s economic competitiveness, inject choice into public services, and create a freer, more prosperous society. They promote libertarian ideas and public policies in the United Kingdom through research, publishing, media commentary, and educational programmes.
The Adam Smith Institute accepts no government funding. Most of their funding comes from private individuals who believe in liberty and want to see a freer world; the rest comes from various foundations, businesses and the sales of their books.
As well as engaging in traditional think tank activities – like conducting research, publishing reports, and holding seminars and conferences – the Institute has also, throughout its history, paid a great deal of attention to developing the next generation of policymakers and opinion formers, with its well known and highly regarded youth programmes forming a major part of its activities. The Adam Smith Institute also prides itself on being forward-looking and media-savvy, and being quick to embrace new technology and new opportunities to promote its ideas.
