Afghanaid is a British humanitarian and development organisation that operates solely in Afghanistan. They began their work in 1983 and despite 30 years of war and turbulence, they have never left.
Working alongside men, women and children in some of the most underserved regions of Afghanistan, they help enable Afghans to identify their most pressing needs and the most relevant solutions.
They support Afghans in the following ways: providing basic services, improving livelihoods, responding to emergencies, and mitigating the risk of disasters.
Gender rights and good governance underpin a substantial portion of their programming and often form the basis of stand alone projects.
They particularly target vulnerable households – including those headed by women, or with elderly, chronically ill or disabled family members. Together, they find solutions to their problems. Their work gives ordinary Afghans a voice in their own development, making them active participants in shaping the future of their country.
They keep Afghans at the heart of their work, which is long-lasting and irreversible as the skills taught are then passed on to whole families and communities.
With more than 30 years of experience and a deep understanding of local, cultural and ethnic issues, Afghanaid has earned great trust and respect among the communities they serve. This has allowed them to gain access to some of the most remote areas of the country.
