The Agency for Financing and Promotion of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (AFP-PME) was created on December 30, 2008 by decree n ° 2008-856 / PRES / PM / MEF. It was born from the desire of the Burkinabè government to provide solutions to the difficulties of financing and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and small and medium-sized industries (SMEs / SMIs) in Burkina Faso.

It has the status of National Financing Fund (FNF) endowed with legal personality and management autonomy. It is placed under the financial supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and under the technical supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (MICA).

The Agency is intended to be a development tool that must play a role of stimulating SMEs / SMIs in an environment where they lack equity and guarantees to meet loan conditions.
