About

Established in 1959, AGRER carries out studies and provides assistance for design and implementation of projects in the framework of international co-operation and partnership agreements.

AGRER provides services financed by the European Union, the World Bank, by specialised agencies of the United Nations, by Regional Development Banks, by public and private sectors.

In Belgium, the company employs a team of 25 staff members including agronomists, engineers, economists and experts in logistics and management.  This team is organised in operational departments which co-ordinate and supervise studies and projects implementation.  Those departments are supported by a Marketing Unit upstream and by an Administrative Unit downstream.

In the framework of its projects the company employs about 50 experts. Additionally, the services of qualified independent experts (through a database of more than 10,000 CV), universities and research institutes can be used as required.

 

ACTIVITIES

Agriculture and rural development

Regional development strategies; agricultural policies and sectoral studies; poverty alleviation and food security, restructuring and management of farms and agro-industries; livestock; fisheries and aquaculture; land titling and agrarian reform; decentralisation and support to local communities; rural infrastructure (including E.I.A.); hydro-agricultural development; irrigation and drainage.

Environment

Studies on biodiversity; management plans and protected areas management plans; conservation programmes; inventories; forestry policies, development and management; population participation to conservation; sustainable management and use of natural resources; protected areas management; impact studies and environmental impact assessment.

Institutional strengthening and capacity development

Contribution to the strengthening, transformation or even rebuilding of institutions ; contribution to capacity development, a process whereby people, organizations and society as a whole strengthen, adapt and maintain capacity over time

Logistical and administrative support

Support to contracts management of independent experts recruited by funding agencies; support to the deployment of electoral observation missions; deputy management of international financing (project management units).

Advice in economy and management

Adjustment policies; macro-economic studies; institutional support; acquis communautaire and enlargement; enterprise restructuring and privatisation; rural diversification, tourism, craft, support to SME development; technology centres; fair trade.
