About

Agropolis Fondation is a French scientific foundation established in 2007 to support and promote high-level research and higher education in agricultural sciences, with a focus on sustainability in temperate, tropical and Mediterranean regions. As a foundation for scientific cooperation, it supports cutting-edge science that is responsive to critical development challenges through an interdisciplinary and integrated approach to plant research.

Working with about 400 partners overseas, its network of 37 research units in and around Montpellier specializes in plant research at various levels- from its genes to its environments to its final uses and societal issues.

It supports projects with fellowships, doctoral and post-doctoral grants and other awards that enable leading and promising international scientists to work with the Foundation's scientific network in Montpellier thereby facilitating knowledge exchange and international partnerships.

The scientific work supported by the Foundation covers all aspects of the plant - from its genes to its environments to its final uses - and concerns temperate, Mediterranean and tropical climates. It supports research initiatives on the following five domains:

  • Genetics and genomics, plant breeding, eco-physiology
  • Integrated crop protection, plant pests and diseases, symbiotes, population ecology
  • Agro-ecosystems, agri-environmental innovations and resource management
  • Agri-food systems, processing and quality of food and non-food materials
  • Innovation processes and social management of innovation

The main issues addressed are:

1. Increasing demand for plants and plant by-products for food and non-food uses

2. Interaction between climate change and crops

3. Prevention and management of risks related to crop and food systems

Core Values

  • Excellence: the quality of scientists (over 1200 researchers and teachers specialized on plant systems), the Fellows, the scientific network and the charter members.
  • Openness: international partnerships with leading scientists and research organizations.
  • Commitment: supporting projects that address the main challenges related to agriculture and sustainable development in temperate, tropical and Mediterranean areas
