About

FROM GRASSROOTS TO GLOBAL IMPACT

What started as a small team responding to a population of people in need has grown into a global partnership between academic institutions in Kenya, North America, and around the world. Together, they’ve pooled their resources, knowledge, ideas, and passion to become one of Africa’s largest, most comprehensive and successful health care systems.

START WITH CARE. THEN DO MORE

At AMPATH, they’ve found that helping people means so much more than medical treatment. It’s only when they combine care with nutrition and family support, education, counseling, insurance, jobs and financial independence, and self-sufficiency that they truly change lives for the better.

Theirs is a partnership made up of organizations like Moi University and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kenya, Indiana University in North America, the Kenyan Government, the National Hospital Insurance Fund, and so many more.

Together, they start with healthcare for patients, and then do more to empower communities, educate tomorrow’s medical experts, and research breakthroughs that will truly change the health of the world.

MISSION

IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF PEOPLE IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES

AMPATH improves the health of people in underserved communities by working in partnership with academic health centers, ministries of health and others to build public sector health systems and promote well-being. Guided by the principle of leading with care, they:

  • Deliver and sustain effective healthcare services
  • Reduce health disparities and address social determinants of health
  • Develop and strengthen human capacity through training and education
  • Advance research that improves health
  • Strengthen partner institutions\

VISION

A GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP TO ENSURE HEALTH FOR ALL

Each day, they continue to build and strengthen an already global network of academic health centers collaborating with ministries of health in low-income countries to ensure essential healthcare for all people. And their model of partnership in Kenya is replicable for sustainable health systems around the world.

Their work has carved a path to systems that can sustain themselves and the health of an entire population through:

  • Creating a seamless care system with electronic medical records

  • Building community groups to support each other in gaining health and wealth

  • Making health insurance accessible and affordable for all
