The Balam Association is a local, non-profit Non-Governmental Organization created in 2001 with objectives focused on:

Conservation
Promote the conservation of natural and cultural resources incorporating civil society in its management, based on economic opportunities.  

Political incidence
To have a positive political influence on the environmental management of Petén, through the strengthening of spaces for public participation that promote strategic alliances based on co-responsibility principles.

Capacity
Strengthening of local and institutional capacities of key actors linked to the conservation of natural and cultural resources.

Rural development
Promote rural development through the strengthening and development of education, food security, nutrition and reproductive health projects.
