The International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF) is the network mayors and officials from capitals and major cities in 48 countries where French is the official language - the language of communication or a language widely used, and the voice of local communities by providing an international forum.
With French as the language widely used, AIMF place a shared value in decision making, participatory democracy or local development planning. Through its meetings and seminars, the association provides elected representatives and managers of territorial administration space for exchange, reflection and dialogue around practices territories. It thus promotes the transfer of knowledge, strengthening the French expertise and the development of practical solidarity between its members. Participating in major international conferences and establishing lasting working relationships with development agencies and multilateral donors, AIMF also offers its members the opportunity to see their values and know-how brought on the international scene. Finally, the association seeks to promote exchanges with local communities and other cultural areas and their networks, involving them in the discussion and signing agreements with them in partnership.
As a network of cities committed to act as close to citizens, the AIMF develop close cooperation in the fields of municipal activity, by making concrete solidarity among its members.
Operator of the International Organisation of Francophonie (OIF), the AIMF meets the wishes of heads of state and government of francophone countries: strengthening local democracy, supporting decentralization policies and giving local authorities the means to assume their new responsibilities.
