The Interstate Movement of Babaçu Coco Breakers in Maranhão, Pará, Piauí and Tocantins emerges as an organization which represents the social, political and economic interests of this group, giving these women the opportunity to be seen and recognized. This allows the chance to develop, through the knowledge and experience that the work of the movement as well as seeing the world beyond communities. The struggle, once related to the right to land and to babassu, has to be a struggle for the quality of life of women in the countryside.
In 1991, the breakers, with the help of nongovernmental organizations, organized the first Interstate Meeting of the Babaçu Coco Breakers in São Luís, which resulted in the creation of the Babaçu Coconut Breaking Women's Articulation. In 1995, at the II Interstate Meeting, the name is changed to Interstate Movement of Babaçu Coco Breakers - MIQCB. Consequently, the struggle of national proportions and then land gain, the overthrow of machismo, and the rise of the rights of women farmers, women, and citizens in the reality of these women were possible.
The MIQCB revealed to these women that female does not exist, which has meant that the life of the improved and they became active socially and economically. Such force can be reflected different activities provided by the group, which not only longs to make a living by selling coconut and products produced from this raw material, such as the oil, flour and soap. On the contrary, MIQCB assumes mainly an ideological character, in which the education and awareness of these rural workers.
The MIQCB promotes group discussions in the different communities of all states, led by and directors of each state, who had the opportunity to study in higher education and access to help different federal universities that know and support the movement.
