The Association of Italian NGOs constitute the most extensive and representative of the national non-government views. Established in 2000, the association represents more than 250 organizations engaged in international cooperation and solidarity.
The Association supports and encourages the coordination and exchange of experiences between the various Italian organizations of international cooperation and solidarity and that is its main purpose is to promote and support the culture and policies of international cooperation with the aim of provoking affirm, support and disseminate the values and culture of international solidarity with the defense and promotion of fundamental rights of individuals and peoples.
Among the objectives of the Association, is certainly the first to contribute to the development of strategies and policies for national and European co-operation, supporting the views of NGOs and development in the relationship with national, European and international, and with all the expressions of civil society. In addition, the Association promotes and facilitates consultation, exchange of experiences and transfer of information between members, provide a mechanism for collaboration and
synergy between them, based on common values and experiences of specific proposals and that also expressed through national and international campaigns promoted and implemented by the Association with the contribution of its members.
In June 2009, following a long path of reform, the Association of Italian NGOs has become an organization that represents the third level networks and organizations that have NGOs as partners and / or associations of solidarity and international cooperation.
