About
The Baghdad Chamber of Commerce was established under Law No. 40 of 1926, and it was the first chamber established under national rule in Iraq, and then the other chambers were established in the rest of the provinces of the country.
The chamber went through four phases:
The first phase:
It begins with its establishment in 1926 and practiced its activities under Law No. 40 of 1926, then Law No. 100 of 1966. This stage is distinguished by the private sector’s individual responsibility for fully managing the chamber.
The second phase:
starting from 1968 until 1983, when Law No. 124 of 1969 was enacted, and Law No. 45 of 1973 was subsequently issued, according to which the socialist sector was involved in the responsibility of managing chambers of commerce in Iraq alongside the private sector.
The third stage:
The beginning of 1985 marked the beginning of this stage in the history of the Iraqi chambers after it was merged with the Iraqi Federation of Industries under Law No. 24 of 1983
The fourth phase:
This stage began in the history of the Iraqi Chambers of Commerce with the legislation of Law No. 43 of 1989, whereby the Chamber, according to this law, became a professional economic organization to take care of the affairs of private commercial activity and provide services and information to it in a manner that helps it to best exercise its role in commercial activities.
