The Agricultural Environment Research Institute (Balingtan) is a functional group whose research is technically mandated to assist the duties and functions of the Agricultural Land Resources Center (BBSDLP). Previously, Balingtan was an Experimental Garden (1953) under the Bogor Agricultural Research Institute (LP3). Along with the development of the agricultural sector, the Experimental Garden in the rainfed area has changed its function as a national station for food crop research in rainfed land under the Food Crop Research Institute (1981).

MISSION

• - Carry out research on technology for preventing and controlling environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions on agricultural land
• - Disseminating and utilizing the results of agricultural environmental research and building cooperation in improving the treasury of agricultural environmental science and technology with institutions from within and outside the country
• - Develop a network of national and international cooperation in the mastery of science and technology management of the agricultural environment and its use in agricultural development
