About

Balyena.org is a non-profit society formed in 2009 by a group of friends and colleagues who conduct research on whales and dolphins in the Philippines.

The idea for Balyena at Lumba came about after years of doing research, education and conservation work on whales and dolphins around the Philippines. What started out as a serendipitous volunteer job opportunity, developed into a burning passion for learning more about these animals, sharing the experience with others, spreading the knowledge and encouraging everyone to do their part in the conservation of whale and dolphin populations and their habitats in the Philippines.

They aim to provide baseline data for the management and conservation of whales, dolphins, and porpoises in the Philippines. By increasing the knowledge and awareness on cetaceans in the country we hope to increase the capacity of locals in conducting cetacean research and promote active participation in conservation.

They are skilled and qualified trainers in marine mammal stranding response. They provide trainings for groups and communities who request and need it. Thye have extensive experience in responding to strandings and are willing to help whenever possible.

Thye are dedicated in educating the youth and the general public regarding cetacean biology, research and conservation by providing up-to-date information, current news and issues locally and internationally.
