History
Creation:
The BANCO NACIONAL DE FOMENTO was created by Decree-Law 281 of March 14, 1961, replacing the Banco del Paraguay. It began operating on November 20, 1961. The charter was amended by Law No. 5800 of May 30, 2017.
Background:
BANCO DEL PARAGUAY, created in 1944 by Decree-Law No. 5130 of September 8, 1944. The Banco del Paraguay replaced the Banco de la República del Paraguay and later absorbed the Banco Agrícola del Paraguay.
BANCO DE LA REPÚBLICA DEL PARAGUAY, created in 1936 by Decree-Law No. 11 of February 22, 1936, which in turn had replaced the old CHANGE OFFICE created in 1916.
BANCO AGRÍCOLA DEL PARAGUAY, created by Law of September 24, 1887 and incorporated into Banco del Paraguay in 1947 by Decree No. 23.681 of December 23, 1947, it is ordered to incorporate Banco Agrícola del Paraguay into Banco del Paraguay -article 1st - and it is established that the assets and liabilities of Banco Agrícola del Paraguay be transferred to Banco del Paraguay –article 2 -.
Object:
The purpose of the Bank will be to promote the economic and social development of the country, providing banking and financial services within the modalities established in the General Law of Banks, Finance Companies and other Credit Institutions, in order to promote the social development of the most vulnerable and prioritizing projects to promote agriculture, livestock, forestry and trade in materials and products originating in the country.
