
Bank Al-Maghrib of Morocco
About
Bank Al-Maghrib, the central bank of Morocco, was created by virtue of the Decree No 1-59-233, dated June 30, 1959 as a public legal entity endowed with financial autonomy. The Bank’s object, operations as well as its administrative, management and control procedures have been adapted by virtue of Law No. 76-03, bearing Statutes of Bank Al-Maghrib, which entered into force on February 20, 2006, as well as by virtue of the texts for its implementation, as amended.
Fundamental missions
- Exercise the privilege of issuing banknotes and coins that are legal tender in the Kingdom
- Implement monetary policy instruments in order to ensure price stability
- Ensure currency stability and convertibility
- Ensure the smooth running of the money market and supervise it
- Prepare and publish statistics on money and credit
- Manage official foreign exchange reserves
- See to the smooth running of the banking system and to the enforcement of legal and regulatory provisions relating to the exercise and control of the activity of credit institutions and similar bodies;
- Monitor systems and means of payment and ensure their security and the relevance of applicable standards
Other missions
- Act as financial agent of the Treasury
- Advise the Government on financial issues
- Represent the Government in the international financial and monetary institutions created to promote cooperation in the monetary and financial fields
- Take part in the negotiation and implementation of international financial agreements
