The Bariloche Foundation was created in 1963 with the purpose of contributing to research activities, postgraduate teaching and creation, and transferring its experiences and results to society. The guiding principle of its action, according to the statute and above all in accordance with the spirit and praxis of its founders and members, was from the beginning unrestricted respect for academic freedom and the defense of democratic and republican principles.  In its beginnings and until the mid-1970s the Foundation was composed of a Board of Directors, an Advisory Board, the Executive Presidency, an Administration Management and a Development Management. The Board of Directors was made up of the permanent members - among them several of the founders - the directors of the departments, delegates of the business groups and representatives of the academic and administrative staff chosen by their peers. For its part, the Advisory Council consisted of delegates from the business groups and a representative of the academic staff. The Executive Presidency, initially occupied by Carlos A. Mallmann, had the support of the Management of Administration with soothes in Bariloche and of the Management of Development in Buenos Aires.  In addition to administrative support activities, the latter was responsible for attracting global and special economic resources. The Bariloche Foundation was created in 1963 with the purpose of contributing to research activities, postgraduate teaching and creation, and transferring its experiences and results to society. The guiding principle of its action, according to the statute and above all in accordance with the spirit and praxis of its founders and members, was from the beginning unrestricted respect for academic freedom and the defense of democratic and republican principles. In its beginnings and until the mid-1970s the Foundation was composed of a Board of Directors, an Advisory Board, the Executive Presidency, an Administration Management and a Development Management. PROGRAMS Environment and Development The Environment Programme is aimed at investigating the relationship between environment and socio-economic system in general, emphasizing the economic and social aspects of this relationship. Complex Systems Analysis Since 1996 the program, in cooperation with the Faculty of Humanities at the National University of Comahue, organized a Master of Philosophy and History of Science. This Master is directed by the Program Director and has a staff of qualified teachers from various universities. Courses have finished three classes of students, of which a significant number has defended his final thesis or is close to doing so. Since 1998, the program has developed several research projects financed by the CONICET, including a project of international cooperation with the Institute of Philosophy of the CSIC (Madrid). It has also participated in a project with the program ECOS Gino Germani Research Institute of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Paris I. Currently, these projects include the participation of five fellows graduate. In 1999 the program created the Patagonian Journal of Philosophy, indexed publication that has an international advisory committee of recognized experts. It is published in partnership with the National University of Quilmes. Since 2002, the program is based, along with Gino Germani Research Institute of the University of Buenos Aires, a UNESCO Chair in Philosophy. The owner of the program is the director and his deputy in charge is Dr. Francisco Naishtat. Since the end of 2012 the program was configured as Department and within the same four programs were created: Ancient Philosophy, Social Sciences, Philosophy of Technology and Ecophilosophy. Energy The Department of Energy (Energy Economics Institute-IDEE / FB) started its activities in 1978, continuing the work begun in 1967 by the Energy Group of the Department of Natural Resources and Energy of the Bariloche Foundation. Its work program focuses on the development of activities in basic and applied research, training, dissemination and technical assistance in the field of economics, planning and energy policy and its relationship with the social and environmental dimensions. In order to evaluate the role of energy systems in its articulation to sustainable development, the multiple dimensions of the issue is addressed through a multi and interdisciplinary team composed of professionals from various branches of science and technology. Integrated Policy and Development This Department is based on the work of researchers and scholars of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), who has supported the presence and part of the Director- projects and funds and SECYT Bariloche Foundation, among others institutions. Their activities have been carried out by a small number of stable researchers, who have seen their numbers through recruitment of highly qualified personnel to externally funded projects.
