As the municipal real estate company of the city of Darmstadt, bauverein AG, founded in 1864, has been making affordable housing available to the population in and around Darmstadt for 150 years. One focus was always on subsidized housing for people who would otherwise have problems finding housing on the market. Around 40% of their apartments are therefore subject to rent and occupancy restrictions.
The portfolio of bauverein AG currently includes around 17,000 apartments in the southern Hesse region, including around 12,000 apartments in Darmstadt.

Ever since they were founded in 1864, they have seen themselves as a basic supplier. They have always remained true to their promise of providing affordable housing for broad sections of the population: to date, publicly funded housing accounts for 39.4% of their supply.
At the same time, they are reacting to the great demand for low-priced housing by offering many apartments in the privately financed sector at prices per square meter that are below the usual market price.
Climate and environmental protection is important to them. That is why they have been involved in the areas of energy-efficient renovations, passive house construction and energy-saving living and building for years. Their goal is to offer our customers living space that also meets high energy requirements and thus make a contribution to sustainability.
