Bertelsmann Stiftung
About

The Bertelsmann Stiftung is an independent foundation under private law, based in Gütersloh, Germany. It was founded in 1977 by Reinhard Mohn as the result of social, corporate and fiscal considerations. As the Bertelsmann Stiftung itself has put it, the foundation promotes "reform processes" and "the principles of entrepreneurial activity" to build a "future-oriented society."

An operating foundation, rather than a funding organization, which considers itself an engine of reform and a promoter of social change toward a sustainable society. It aims to identify social challenges and problems early on and to develop and implement model solutions. Its programme carries out think-tanking activities and policy consultancy which focus on the future of the European Union and its relations with neighbouring regions.

Their mission statement is a clear expression of the principles that underlie all our activities. Providing guidance to everyone who works at the Bertelsmann Stiftung, it sets out what they do, how they do it and how they interact with each other.
