BioPlanta combines applied plant biotechnology and engineering services at the highest level.
BioPlanta uses the potential of biology to develop processes for cleaning water, soil and sediments.
BioPlanta is an independent engineering company from Leipzig, Germany, specializing in water, contamination and the environment.
BioPlanta produces plant-active compounds and fine chemicals of a one-of-a-kind quality.
Team
The BioPlanta team consists of scientists, engineers, laboratory assistants and technicians from the following fields:
Active agents
Only a small part of the world's plant species have been phytochemically analysed. Correspondingly, flora holds a tremendous potential for the research and development of new active compounds.
BioPlanta harnesses this potential for its clients and breaks new ground in the research of active agents:
Extracts for the industry
For centuries phytochemicals have been important constituents for the production of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and foodstuffs. BioPlanta is a reliable partner for the individual manufacturing of plant-derived extracts of the highest quality.
Active substances for pharmaceutics
Plant-derived active substances such as paclitaxel, which is extracted from the Pacific yew tree, podophyllotoxin from the May Apple or camptothecin from Camptotheca acuminate ("tree of happiness"), are outstanding sources for pharmaceuticals in cancer therapy. BioPlanta produces plant-derived compounds as well as fine chemicals with high purity and homogeneity.
Research Development
Elite plants
Technology for the production of functional plants was developed based on modern methods regarding in vitro cultivation, breeding and selection. Highly productive clones are identified and mass propagated. These elite plants are used in industrial processes and applications.
BioPlanta uses plant physiology for both the processes it utilizes and for customized applications.
Water treatment
BioPlanta designs plants for the treatment of water from various sources, which is contaminated in different ways. BioPlanta has specialized knowledge in the design and operation of passive biological systems (Constructed Wetlands).
In addition to the application of domestic water treatment, BioPlanta, both in Germany and abroad, has convincingly proven the performance of Wetland systems through several special applications e.g. the hygienization of waste water, the removal of heavy metals and the degradation of explosives compounds.
Waste water
One area of special expertise of BioPlanta is the engineering of passive water treatment systems for commercial and industrial application. Moreover, BioPlanta has planned several installations for the treatment of domestic and agricultural waste water of different sizes.
Groundwater
For ground water remediation, BioPlanta combines active hydraulic systems with passive on site treatment. The extracted ground water is cleaned in a Wetland system through a single or multi-phase process. The clean water can be re-injected into the ground or discharged into a surface water body
Mine water
The waters from mining pits, tailings or lakes are often very acidic and contaminated with heavy metals and radio nuclides. The mine waters build up over long time periods and the contamination decreases gradually. Therefore, passive biological treatment with its low operational costs and maintenance requirements is the most economical and ecological solution. Constructed Wetlands treat mining waters for long terms efficiently and cost-effectively.
Landfill leachate
Seepage from landfills contains a variety of unwanted nutrients and harmful substances. Constructed Wetlands are an efficient, low-cost technology for the complete removal of these compounds. In combination with an activated carbon treatment, even non-biodegradable compounds can be removed.
Surface water
The contaminated runoff from roads and production areas (like storage areas, places of waste pre-treatment etc.) has to be treated. Because the inflow is highly variable and the contamination low, Constructed Wetlands are a sustainable solution to treat runoff for long periods of time.
