About

The Stock Exchange of Montevideo (BVM) is an institution whose main function is to provide the necessary platform to carry out the processes of placement, negotiation and custody of public and private securities.

The placement process includes the entry of new securities into the market, that is, the primary issuance of securities. Negotiation involves the purchase and sale of pre-existing securities in the secondary market. The custody of securities is a service that provides support and security to investors in matters of administration and marketing of their securities, reducing the risk of loss, theft or falsification.

In addition to offering services to its partners, the BVM also provides services to issuers of securities and society as a whole.

Since 1867 the BVM affirms the tranquility of a safe and transparent market. Annually, the operators linked to the BVM carry out transactions for almost 3,000 million dollars.

The BVM holds more than 2 billion dollars of securities of its members.

In the BVM, brokers and Special Members can carry out transactions. To become a Broker, it is necessary to be a member of the BVM and comply with the requirements determined by Uruguayan legislation and the regulations of the Central Bank of Uruguay.

Special Members are institutions qualified to operate that do not have the quality of BVM partners. Banks, pension fund administrators, social security institutions and insurance companies can be Special Partners.

The BVM is managed by a Board of Directors composed of five members, of which three represent Stock Brokers and two independent Directors. In addition to the Board of Directors, the BVM has a Committee of Good Practices and an Audit and Oversight Committee.
