British Power International (BPI) has a long tradition of providing expertise in energy to governments, not-for-profit agencies, regulatory authorities and private companies.
The company provides services in the technical, commercial and strategic aspects of the production, supply and distribution of power. From small beginnings, they have grown to a $10m business. Their staff of 80, plus a team of associates, is diverse but integrated by a shared background in, and commitment to, the energy sector. Based in the UK, they operate in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.
Their expertise is energy. Their focus is power. Their reach is worldwide.
They specialise in electrical system studies and design offering power system planning, overhead line design, connection design, electrical and civil design, asset management and project management, safety and quality assurance services. They also hold full NERS accreditation.
Their team has extensive experience within the power industry, in utilities as well as in other sectors of industry. They offer high quality design coupled with a proven capability to deliver projects.
Their history spans over thirty years. Formed in 1979 as British Electricity International, they were the international arm of the UK's electricity industry, exporting technical and commercial expertise worldwide. Following the privatisation of the electricity industry, ownership passed to a successor company and from 1996 (re-named as British Power International) they became part of Eastern Group, one of the UK's leading power companies. Through this they added new and increasingly relevant capabilities associated with operating in liberalised markets - expertise in regulation and power trading and experience of working in gas.
In 1999 they became an independent consultancy practice, and as British Power International they operate in the UK and internationally.
In 2008 they became part of the Freedom Group of Companies, originally part of the Spice Group, now EnServe. As part of a large and growing provider of outsourced infrastructure support services to the utility sector, they can draw upon a greater breadth of expertise in utility management.
Their work is managed in two streams:
BPI's design practice focuses on power system planning, design, asset management and provides associated project management, safety and quality assurance services.
BPI's consulting practice provides advice on the technical, financial, safety and environmental aspects of power generation, transmission, distribution and supply in a range of regulatory frameworks and market conditions.
They work with network operators, regulatory authorities, actual or potential investors, Governments and Government agencies, and the principal National Grid Organisations and donors active in energy.
