About

Burung Indonesia was founded as a national conservation organization in 2002 with the official name of the Indonesian Wild Bird Conservation Association ( BirdLife Indonesia Association ). With the support of the community, Burung Indonesia is trying to preserve the wild birds in Indonesia and their habitats. Previously, in 1992-2002 this organization was known as the BirdLife International-Indonesia Program.

Burung Indonesia is part of the global partnership of BirdLife International which has 114 organizations around the world.

Burung Indonesia collaborates with the community to develop the capacity of local groups or communities and establish cooperation with the parties.

In its early years as the BirdLife International-Indonesia Program , the focus of the organization's work was identifying Important Areas for Birds and Biodiversity (DPB / IBA). Network development and the formation of bird watching groups were also components of the Indonesian Bird's work during this period. During this period, several DPBs were also encouraged to become protected areas.

To date, Burung Indonesia has been active in facilitating increased effectiveness of protected area management, considering that more than half of IBAs are outside the network of protected areas in Indonesia. However, creating safe areas for biodiversity that support livelihoods is not as easy as changing the status of an area to a protected area. Therefore, Burung Indonesia encourages the management of natural production forest areas through ecosystem restoration.

Burung Indonesia works through three approaches, conservation at the site level, sustainable management of productive landscapes and restoration of natural production forests.
