Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) is a Canadian relief and development agency.

Formed in 1946 as a response to the humanitarian crisis in post-war Europe, CLWR has grown to serve the world's poor and disenfranchised through community development, refugee resettlement, emergency relief, and donated commodities shipments.

CLWR is headquartered in Winnipeg with offices in Toronto and Vancouver. An office in Santa Cruz, Bolivia helps facilitate long-term development projects in the Andean region. 

CLWR is a registered charitable organization in Canada with an appointed board of directors. Funding and support come from members and congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC), Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC), other Canadians of goodwill and various levels of government.

 

What We Do

Canadian Lutheran World Relief carries out a broad range of programs that are united in the goal of making life better for those in need. Today we have five main programs:
 

1. Community DevelopmentCommunity development supports community-based development programs that bring improvements in health, education, nutrition, agriculture, gender equality and more.
    
2. We Care (Donated Commodities)
   We Care (Donated Commodities) collects essential goods from donors across Canada and makes regular shipments to those in need overseas.
    
3. Emergency Relief
   Emergency relief directs financial aid to areas affected by natural and human-made disasters, through established emergency relief networks.
    
4. Refugee Resettlement
   Refugee resettlement assists refugees through the refugee application process, and works with Canadian groups and organizations to sponsor refugees’ resettlement in Canada.
    
5. International Volunteer Service
   International Volunteer Service provides opportunities for Canadians to serve overseas in an international development setting.
