CATTRACHAS is a feminist lesbian network, dedicated to research and communication for political advocacy and the defense of human rights of the LGTTBI community in Honduras.
As lesbian feminists, they defend the human rights of women in general, especially by analyzing factors such as religious fundamentalisms, corruption, access to justice from a non-heterosexual perspective, and even organized crime in order to achieve realistic advocacy processes based on evidence.
This network was born in 2000 as the Cattrachas Lesbian Response Network, autonomous and independent. It arises to develop a communication strategy that from civil society responds and communicates effectively the violations of Human Rights to LGTTBI people. The permanent systematization of the activists and the privileged information obtained from direct contact with the victims allowed Cattrachas to evolve; and by 2003, Cattrachas was a communication and advocacy network, not only providing a response to the victims but since then it has denounced human rights violations towards the LGTTBI population at a national and international level. From that moment, they have been recognized as Red Lesbica Cattrachas. These evidence-based processes made it possible to generate alliances and work together with activists, NGOs, and networks at the national and international levels. They have strong relationships with human rights defenders and alternative media. Cattrachas is not an NGO and it is precisely that autonomy and the inter-institutional relationship that allows promoting political advocacy processes for the defense of LGBTTI people in Honduras at all levels.
