About

The Medicines and Medical Articles Center is a Pharmaceutical Logistics institution founded on September 6, 1975 by Presidential Decree n˚13/75, of September 6.

For over 45 years, we have had the exclusive mission of planning, acquiring, storing, conserving and distributing medicines, medical supplies and other essential health products to the National Health Service throughout the national territory.

Transparency, feedback and professionalism; professional ethics and deontology, integrity and responsibility – these are key values that guide the functioning of our institution.

Their vision is to guarantee a regular and continuous supply of medicines and vital health products and essences for users of the health units of the National Health System.

They currently have a total of 4 Central Warehouses (Central Warehouse in Zimpeto, Central Warehouse in Machava; Central Warehouse in Beira and Central Warehouse in Nampula and 6 Intermediate Warehouses (Intermediate Warehouse in Vilankulo; Intermediate Warehouse in Manica, Intermediate Warehouse in Mocuba, Intermediate Warehouse in Mopeia, Intermediate Warehouse in Ile and Intermediate Warehouse in Quelimene).

They have a vast and committed team of 211 employees who, with professionalism, dedication and responsibility, do their best "for quality pharmaceutical logistics", in various work sectors, such as: Distribution Department, Procurement, Monitoring and Evaluation, Control Internal, Finance; Administration and Human Resources, Planning, Information and Communication Technologies and the Distribution of Studies and Projects.

 Within the scope of the medication acquisition process, we trigger, annulled, around 20 processes for health products, comprising 2500 items.

The chain is also supplied through donations in kind, with the institution being responsible for customs clearance.

The Supply Chain works as follows: The Distribution Department approves requests from CMAM's Direct Customers (Provincial Medicines Depots, Central Hospitals and Intermediate Warehouses), then issuing Supply Orders to the Central/Regional Warehouses. These send medicines and related products to Provincial Medicines Depots, Intermediate Warehouses and Central Hospitals, which are responsible for supplying their own customers (District Medicines Depots and Provincial, General, District and Rural Hospitals).

However, with the full implementation of the Strategic Plan for Pharmaceutical Logistics (PELF), this pattern will change. The Sanitary Units will be supplied directly by the Intermediate Warehouses, as in the North Zone of Inhambane Province; Manica, with the installation of the Intermediate Warehouse in Chimoio, and in Zambézia with the entry into operation of the Intermediate Warehouses in Mocuba, Ile and Mopeia.

The following are challenges for their institution:

– Mobilization of Resources for the Implementation of the PELF, with a focus on Intermediate Warehouses;

– Improvement of the process of Quantifying and Planning Medicines and related products at all levels of the Medicines Supply Chain (Central, Provincial, District and Health Units);

– Reduction of accumulated and expired products throughout the Medicines Supply Chain;

– Elimination of theft and diversion of Medicines and related products throughout the Supply Chain;

– Improvement in the transport of Medicines and related products to the last mile, which is the Health Unit.
