Centre for Women Co-Operative Development (CWCD) came into existence as a Non-Governmental Organization in 1992. Ever since its inception, CWCD is devoted towards the achievement of its objective – poverty alleviation through enterprise development & the creations of value chains. The aim of the organization is to economically empower the poor communities and facilitate them in developing their businesses through Micro Credit and Enterprise Development Programs. In 2009 CWCD extended its operations from Conventional Microfinance to Islamic Microfinance.
CWCD has thus become the pioneer organization to introduce Islamic Microfinance operations in Pakistan.CWCD is the first organization in the country to identify the need for Islamic Microfinance, develop a team, build an alliance, develop not one rather five products, successfully deploy them, & reap successful results. CWCD managed to transform the whole organizational structure to Islamic MF, after its successful pilot project launched initially at 2 branches.
With the consortium of Mufti Iftikhar Baig of Taqi Usmani Group, Ernst & Young Ford Rhodes Sidat Hyder, CWCD developed a unique model of microfinance compliant to the law of Shariah. Through such effort, CWCD has also been successful in raising awareness among common masses about Islamic Microfinance and its virtual advantages over conventional microfinance.
At CWCD, it’s not just about delivering basic services to a large number of people. Its about helping people to respond to the root causes of their poverty. That’s what makes for real empowerment little by little so that things change. CWCD has supported and impacted the lives of 93,285 beneficiaries to date through its unique microfinance model & innovative programs.
