Chamber Made Opera is committed to the creation and presentation of new performance works that investigate how music, performance and design can converge. CMO is renowned for continually challenging art form, bringing together outstanding creative teams and taking on inspired artistic challenges.
They make a space for artists and audiences who are hungry to interrogate the status quo and step into unknown territory. Their work provokes debate around both form and content. Every work is completely original. They make new works that explore questions of current social, political and cultural currency.
Having presented over 90 performance seasons in Australia, NZ, Asia, Europe, USA and South America, CMO has extensive experience working on international tours, co-productions and residencies. The company has commissioned over 40 new Australian works and engaged countless artists since it was founded in 1988. CMO’s artistic team is led by Creative Director and CEO Tim Stitz with Artistic Associates Sarah Kriegler, Tamara Saulwick, Christie Stott and Erkki Veltheim, working in collaboration with a range of independent artists, organisations and communities.
Artistic collaboration is central to the company’s philosophy and creative methodology. They make intimate work for the purpose of exploring difficult questions within a strong artistic framework.
CMO has multi-year, re-current funding from the Victorian Government and City of Melbourne and has an enduring support base from philanthropic and earned income.
