CAUPD, a scientific research institution under the Ministry of Construction of P.R. China, is a national center of urban planning research, design and information. The Academy has been qualified in the National Class A in relevant professional fields of urban planning and design, civil engineering and design, and engineering Constancy. CAUPD has been authorized by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to confer the Master Degree in Urban Planning and Design. She is the backing and sponsoring body of the Urban Planning Society of China(UPSC), China Academic Committee of Urban Transport Planning, Professional Committee for Urban Geographic Information System of China Geographic Information System Association and the National Network of Scientific and Technological information in Urban Planning. The Academy is also an organization member of China International Engineering Consulting Corporation. CAUPD is entrusted by the Ministry of Construction as the administrative organization for national norms and codes, and professional norms and standards in terms of urban planning. Since 1983, the Academy has already completed 105 projects in city scientific research, in national and professional norms and standards preparation assigned by Natural Science Funds, the Ministry of Construction and the Funds of CAUPD; 1047 projects of city planning, design and technical constancy services, including plans of municipal system, city master plans, district plans, different kinds of detailed plans, urban transport plans, landscape plans, conservation plans for cities with historical interests, renovation plans for old towns, architectural design, civil engineering design. CAUPD, which has been involved actively in the international academic exchanges and cooperation, has established its links with relevant institutions and firms from 26 countries and regions in the world. In 1988, China Academy of Urban Planning and Design was admitted into the International Federation of Housing and Planning(IFHP). CAUPD is registered as a consultancy firm to the World Bank.
