Twenty years (and hundreds of billions of dollars) after China launched its seminal “Go Global” strategy encouraging investors to search for opportunities overseas, the Asian country’s growing presence in the world is the subject of vigorous debate.
Depending on what you read, China is often presented as either a grave danger to developing countries’ economies, societies and environments, or as a vital source of trade and finance, and a development partner capable of delivering “win-win” outcomes in a multi-polar world.
As the latest chapter in the story of China’s going global, Latin America now finds at the forefront of the discussion. Yet few media in Latin America have the resources to understand China and the actors and institutions at the heart of this rapidly evolving story.
