Christel House
About

Christel House India is a school located in Bangalore, India. It was founded in 2001 as an addition to Christel House International. CHI is a global nonprofit organization that operates five schools around the world specializing in educating youths living in poverty. Now, the school serves more than 800 children annually. Christel House transforms the lives of impoverished children by having them educated and having a strong character development program that are supported by regular healthcare, nutritious meals, guidance counseling, career planning, family assistance and College & Careers support.

Children don’t choose to be born into poverty. Most grow up never realizing their human potential.  Instead, they face physical and psychological trauma—hunger, malnutrition, disease, low self-esteem and lack of opportunity.

Christel House is a holistic model designed to transform the lives of impoverished children. They do this by focusing on the “whole child.”  They don’t just educate, or feed, or provide health care—they do all of these things—from early childhood through early adulthood. They develop the total child.

Christel House Works:

  • -Daily attendance rate 97% - Students K-12
  • -Annual K-12 Student retention rate of 90%
  • -Standardized test scores that surpass benchmark public schools by high margins
  • -99% of students passed graduation exams
  • -94% of College & Careers students continuing studies or gainfully employed
  • -4,623 Total number of students served including College & Careers

Christel House embodies the philosophy of 12th Century Philosopher, Maimonides—“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Outcomes:

  • -Their graduates have the dignity, comportment, values, skills and abilities to make a positive contribution to society
  • -Their students stay in school, graduate, continue their studies and gain employment
  • -Their commitment to students is often 20 years or more—from kindergarten to career
  • -Their model creates a “multiplier effect,” as once the cycle of poverty is broken, all future generations benefit

Their structure ensures that 100% of donations directly benefit children; administrative expenses are paid by their Founder and CEO.
