Credit Information Bureau, Inc. (now known as CIBI Foundation) was set up in 1982 by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Central Bank of the Philippines, and the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) to serve as a third-party, objective source of business and individual information.
VISION/MISSION
To be a lead private institution promoting capital market development in the Philippines through research, education and advocacy, particularly in the fields of credit information, credit rating, accounting education, and ethics; working cooperatively with the public and private sectors, and with foreign and domestic partners; focusing on good financial governance and on sound financial information as basis for investment decision making; strengthening academic and research institutions by supporting research in its fields of interest.
STRATEGY
The Foundation’s Financial Base
To strengthen the Foundation’s financial capability from such sources as a larger endowment fund, continuing contributions from a broad support base, special-purpose grants, with the long run objective of being a primarily grants-giving organization for projects within its areas of concern.
To continue with its investment in Philippine Ratings Corporation and CIBI Information, Inc., and other related enterprises, as a means of assisting the development of good credit discipline in the financial system.
Target Groups
To identify and support activities intended to improve the analysis and interpretation of financial information, directed at: (a) investors including government owned and controlled corporations, local government units and overseas Filipino workers; (b) academic institutions, particularly in accounting and financial education; and (c) the media, as a means of increasing the financial decision making capability of the general public.
Areas of Concern
To identify and support activities, particularly in research and training, that will encourage the proper use of credit through the availability of accurate and timely credit information and proper interpretation of credit information, that will strengthen accounting education; and that will promote the ethical dimension in investment activities.
Advocacy
To support advocacy programs intended to create a hospitable business and regulatory environment that addresses and balances the interests and concerns of all capital market players, through the development of debt and equity markets.
Training and Education
To sponsor or co-sponsor, organize and conduct conferences, fora, surveys, symposia, dialogues, workshops and similar activities addressed to academicians and financial and investment executives, to promote the Vision/Mission and objectives of the Foundation.
Implementation Groups
To operationalize the Vision/ Mission/Objectives, Working Clusters or Implementation Groups will be organized, each to be headed by a Program Director chosen from among the Foundation’s Trustees.
