For over 50 years, the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) has helped administer the Fulbright Scholar Program, the U.S. government's flagship academic exchange effort, on behalf of the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Founded in 1947, CIES is a private organization. It is a division of the Institute of International Education (IIE). CIES maintains deep ties with the U.S. higher education community, including individual universities and colleges and major scholarly organizations. It also works with a network of binational Fulbright Commissions in 50 countries and 90 U.S. diplomatic posts around the world, as well as international universities and higher education associations. The day-to-day work of CIES is carried out by over 60 program officers and staff organized by world region. A six-person external relations unit assists program officers with recruitment and works with U.S. colleges and universities, professional and scholarly associations and the media to publicize the Fulbright Scholar Program and other CIES undertakings.
CIES International was founded in 1991 and a couple of years later extended its operations to all cities of the main axis and other smaller cities of Bolivia.
The first decade was characterized by our work with major companies in the country, multinationals, foreign research companies and international organizations.
CIES International formed a partnership with CimaGroup in 2002. This company, which has a presence in 6 countries in the region, was oriented to conduct consumer studies and was transferred to the multinational Synovate in early 2008.
Today, the work of two decades and the experience of our strategic partnerships, place CIES International as a reference for research and statistical surveys in Bolivia.
