Who they are
They are a legally independent, privately funded 501(c)(3) foundation with the goal of working with nonprofits around the globe to harness the power of data to improve people’s lives and protect the planet.
Why they were created
They were born out of the commitment of Cloudera Inc., a software company headquartered in Silicon Valley with offices in 30 countries, to empower more nonprofits to use data as a tool to achieve impact. When the company became publicly traded, management chose to mirror Pledge 1%’s model by donating 1 percent of the company’s equity, profit, product, and employee time to their communities.
Their team
They are a team of professionals with deep experience across both nonprofit and private sectors, with backgrounds in tech, business, and strategy. Based in Silicon Valley, they proudly represent perspectives from 5 continents.
Their relationship with Cloudera Inc.
While the foundation is legally independent of the company, Cloudera Inc. makes its technology and staff available to our grantees, free of charge. As a result, they can draw on the deep expertise of hundreds of corporate data engineers and scientists to assist our nonprofit partners. In addition, they rely on their own team of data technologists to provide continuous support and ensure that corporate volunteers with specialized knowledge are able to engage with grantee projects seamlessly. They are not a business development or sales arm of Cloudera Inc. targeting the nonprofit sector.
